چکیده

Prototyping plays an important role in industrial product designs. In this paper, for achieving a more intuitive and interactive prototyping, a selective clay milling center is introduced based on a synthesis of clay modeling, 3Dimensional (3-D) scanning, robot machining and advanced geometric tools. In the system, the product shape design may start either from a physical hand-made clay model or a virtual Computer-Aided Design (CAD) model. Via 3-D scanning techniques, manual modifications of the clay model can be captured in the CAD form and in the meantime, geometric modifications of the CAD model can be fed back to the physical model by an efficient robot machining method, named selective clay milling. This design cycle is repeated until a satisfied prototype iterates. For a better control of the interactions between the manual modeling and robot milling, a 3-D scanning based calibration system has been developed in order to arbitrarily position the workpiece in the design process. With several experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed system is shown and the possible applications of the proposed system in industrial product design are described as well.

اثر زمان آسیاکاری بر ساختار، اندازه‌ی ذرات و ریخت شناسی مونت‌موریلونیت

In the current research, effect of milling on the structure, particle size and morphology of montmorillonite was investigated. For this purpose, the montmorillonite was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then the montmorillonite was milled using high energy planetary ball mill at different milling times (1...

Shape Selective Pillared Clay Catalysts for P-Xylene Production

Shape selective xylene production is very important in the polymer industry because of its extensive use as raw material for monomer preparation. The acidity associated with the Lewis and Broensted centers present in the pillars interlayered clay and its textural properties allows good catalytic activity and shape selectivity toward p-xylene production. So, in the present study, ultrasonic and ...

Morphology control of clay-mineral particles as supports for metallocene catalysts in propylene polymerization

Spray dry granulation of clay minerals was studied to obtain clay mineral base support material for metallocene supported olefin polymerization catalysts. The morphology of the granules was strongly influenced by the nature of the clay mineral itself. Because of swelling characteristics of montmorillonite, its water dispersion was highly viscous even in the low slurry concentration (< 4 wt %). ...

Evaluation of the intuitive control system for an interactive robotic system

In this paper the concept and first evaluation of the control principle of the MicroAssistant is presented. The MicroAssistant is an interactive surgical robot system to support the surgeon in microsurgical interventions especially in middle ear surgery. During those interventions the surgeon is often confronted with very small and sensitive structures. This fact conflicts with the exhausting m...

Time compression characteristics of the Augmented Prototyping Pipeline

1. Introduction Current rapid prototyping techniques are of limited use in the early phases of design. In order to establish a more dynamic and effective means, the concept of augmented prototyping recently gained interest [Stork et al., 2002][Verlinden et al., 2003]. The concept of Augmented Prototyping combines Rapid Prototyping techniques to obtain 3D physical objects (e.g. Stereo lithograph...
